Dedicated to the memory of dr Jerzy Gaweł (1953-2025), the founder and director of the School of Creative Photography and Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design

The mobile photography workshops titled The Power of the Moment are aimed at uncovering the “unseen” sights of the Spiš region. The project is a continuation of the successful Dom Fotografie creative programs organized by the Gallery of Spiš Artists in Spišská Nová Ves in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (PL), the Krakow School of Art (KSA ‒ PL), the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, and the company FOMA Bohemia.

The mobile photography workshops provide a series of thematic workshops in documentary and experimental photography led by experienced lecturers and tutors from higher education institutions in Slovakia and Poland. The workshops also offer events for the general public: artists’ lectures (SK, CZ, PL), portfolio consultations, presentations of FOMA products, and demonstrations of the so-called “chemigraphy”, an art form combining graphic and photographic images. The project is implemented thanks to the financial support of the Fund for the Support of the Arts.

1.]  NEW DOCUMENT / The natural world in an unnatural light
Lecturer: Jozef Sedlák (UCM, Trnava)

Photography is connected to specific environments and circumstances, with an accent on a burst of light: the ability to capture the moment using a flash. Documenting the living conditions of the socially disadvantaged or the elderly by applying the sociological aspect of photography. This workshop aims to nurture creative techniques as a means of achieving the emotional and rational complexity of your artistic expression. Conceptual interventions are possible within the context of this expression.

2.]  EXPERIMENT / A laboratory of the world, emotions and ideas
Lecturer: Tomáš Agat Błoński (ASP – Krakow, PL)

Creative and subjective photography, poetry and other media at the outer edges of the invisible world – contemporary perspectives at the borders of classical media: experimentation with the aim of capturing the genius loci and the lyricism of the everyday. The workshop covers a wide range of themes: reflections on subjective observation, portraits, landscapes, and also more complex forms such as staged photography and installations. The workshop is open to various photographic techniques – from classical to digital photography, and even the manipulation of images with the use of AI.

3.]  Demonstration of techniques / 23. 10. – 25. 10. 2025
CHEMIGRAPHY / New forms of graphic depictions in photography
Lecturer: Vítězslav Krejčí (FOMA Bohemia, CZ)

Chemigraphy (in Slovak, strukáž) is a special type of photographic technique which takes the form of a drawing, painting, print or spray painting via the application of photochemical agents – a fixer and a positive developer. The chemically active solutions are applied to light-sensitive sheets, most commonly black-and-white photo paper with a resin-coated base. The creative process can be carried out in normal light conditions. A certain random element can be seen in the resulting works, meaning that each image is unique.

Lectures, portfolio reviews, product presentations:  Tomáš Agat Błoński (ASP a KSA, Krakow – PL), Pavol Breier (Bratislava, SK), Vlado Eliáš (Košice, SK), Vítězslav Krejčí (FOMA, CZ), Jozef Sedlák (UCM, Trnava), Jindřich Štreit (Sovinec, CZ)
